Race ideas

Here are some upcoming races we could do!

Herndon Running Festival 10K or 5K (Herndon, obvi) - May 31

Rock the House 8K (Fairfax) - June 7

Lawyers have Heart 10K (Georgetown) - June 13

I'm not sure what to do about the mileage build up problem, I agree we're too far off schedule to do what we'd originally planned. But if we can train for a couple 10K's and have at least 1 ten-miler trail run before the end of June, we should be able to make just small adjustments to the Real training program this summer to get sort of back on track. I still think we can do this!! I just needs some races for the near future to get me pumped back up.

What do you guys think of the above races? I'd do all three, if someone wants to drive my ass out to Herndon, and then Fairfax.

  1. Welp. i dunno what the crap i'm gonna do cause my STOOPID leg still hurts. Last week it was finally to the point where i could go up and down stairs without wincing and then i ran for the bus/ran drunkenly in flip flops and today i fell off a rolly chair (somebody swapped my usual one with one with a higher seat/rollier wheels!) and jarred it again so it's kinda throbby. Maybe i should just give up and see a doc and get an x-ray or something? UGH.

at least i'm biking everyday?? i came all the way to my lab today!

Oh and Lynn was interested in the Rock the House race as well!

i forgot which link has our schedule... can we make a shared google calendar to plan it out?

  2. Liz, if your leg has been hurting you this long, I think it's time to suck it up and see a doctor.

I don't even know if I could run a 10k at this point, but I'd be up for signing up for the Lawyers 10k even though 6 miles sounds REALLY painful right now.

What do you guys thing of this training plan? It starts a week earlier, is less agressive and still has two 20 mile runs.

  3. I agree, I think you definitely need to see a doctor Elizabeth. You don't want to get so bad the damage is irreversible and you can't run ever again!

I definitely couldn't run a 10K this weekend but I bet I could in 2 or 3 weeks, if I actually started running again. We could sign up for the 10K in Herndon and then jump in the 5K if we don't feel trained enough by then? and then do the 8K and then the 10K, and then maybe the following weekend do a trail run together of maybe 8 miles? and then we'd be maybe ok to start that hal higdon schedule?

which, by the way, looks awesome! I didn't notice when you sent it to me a long time ago, that you could click on the week number and there's more detail on each day of the week and training tips and stuff!! super duper!

  4. Oh also!

Lynn was suggesting a 5 mile race in Fredericksburg on 4th of July. I thought that might be fun since it's been awhile since we all took a trip down there. And i never seem to have July 4th plans! It's a Saturday this year, so I wonder if i get the friday before or Monday after off.....

sigh. my internet research tells me that whatever is wrong with mah leg is probably only healed by icing and staying off of it. so all i'd get from seeing the doctor is a diagnosis. but. maybe i'll go anywayz, might as well make that insurance work for me.

    i like this hal higdon!
