Shin Splintz!!!

Sigh. Greg diagnosed it for me, but that's what the doctor said. She said the knee/ankle pain that cropped up later was from me adjusting my gait because of the shin splints. Which kinda makes sense, cause I was leaning way to one side while walking all the time to keep my weight off that leg. But it was good to see an x-ray and confirm that I don't have a sneaky broken bone like Saa did. Anyway, so it's an ice/motrin regimen for me.

She said I could go ahead with training but I should try a run/walk program. Think I could adopt our plan to such? She also recommended running in a pool (huh?) so I'm thinking about dropping my Gold's membership and joining the GU gym so I can do that. Swimming is good cross-training eh? I can barely doggypaddle, but maybe i'll learn. Definitely going to keep up the byking though, I feel like that's strengthened my legs without wearing down on them as much. Plus i just got my sweet new rack so i can tote stuff And a mega-hardcore lock so nobuddeh can steal it.

You guys get some runs in today/yesterday?

This seminar seems neat, but i dunno if worth going to Reston for: http://www.potomacriverrunning.com/events.asp?p=events_instore

  1. yeah you can easily do a run-walk thing with our program! you'll def need a watch, Amber and I can show you what to do!

are you suuuure you don't want to join Bally instead? the only one with a pool is out on Rt 50 in Falls Church but umm, that's way more convenient than the one right where you work..... SIGH.

I did not run yesterday. :-/ I forgot after work we were going to Andy's parents' house to celebrate his dad's birthday. so I didn't run AND I ate cake and ice cream. haha.

I know it's an Ironman somethingorother, 30-lap sounds right.. split timing is the most important feature, there may be others I'm forgetting. Amber?

  6. Glad it wasn't something more serious Liz.

Pool running, I think there are two ways to do it.
    1) You actually run from one end of the pool to the other and back.

    2) There are these flotation device things and you plop your self in the deep end and move you legs like you're running. I don't know much about it and I don't know if you actually MOVE or just stay in the same place.

I think it's the interval timing function you need. The split time (I think) allows you to time each mile and keep you total time too, the interval timing allows you to set a timer that'll go off after 4 minutes (or whatever) for your running and then 1 minute (or whatever) for you walking. But I'll double check when I get home.

I'm going to go home and run my two miles and then I'm going to wallow around in whiskey cause I'm grumpy and unhappy.
